The 13th annual Bedfont Lakes Country Fair was a great success attracting over 6,000 visitors on Sunday 22 July, providing a rare rural treat in an urban setting. In a summer that has brought record breaking rainfall the weather decided to be kind to us for a day and the sun shone and the rain held off!
The award winning park was the setting for a variety of rustic skills from woodcarving to sheepdogs herding geese into pens and from heavy horse displays to Newfoundland dog exhibitions. Part of the Hounslow Urban Farm was relocated especially for the day to bring the farm animals to the country park, much to visitors’ delight.
Pony rides were very popular with young riders who enjoyed a guided ride against the idyllic backdrop of the rolling hills of the park.
Local organic produce from allotments was on sale as well as traditional craftwork items made by woodturning.
Memories were stirred by The Feltham Local History Group who attracted a lot of interest with their display of photographs and information about Feltham, Bedfont and Heathrow.
And there was more! A funfair, a climbing wall, trade stalls, charity stalls and food stalls also provided all the ingredients of a true country fair.
As one visitor commented ‘What a fantastic place to hold a fair! It really is the countryside on our doorstep!’
It takes months of planning and preparation to make the countryside fair a success and we would like to congratulate the rangers for all their hard work.
Please continue to support the park by visiting as often as you can. Also, please consider joining the Friends Group to help support projects in the park.
