Volunteer Day at Bedfont Lakes
Home News Site Map
The second volunteer day at Bedfont Lakes was held on Saturday 12th April. Ranger James Herd has sent us this report of how it went.
Another excellent turn out for April's volunteer day! Eight
volunteers attended with a couple of new faces which is always positive. With the the aim of clearing cut debris and scrub from the previous volunteer day
and finishing raking off the banks to the Nature Reserve entrance after the side arm flail had cut the foliage during the winter, we got stuck into the work just after 10am.
The cut material was disposed of by having a good, old fashioned burn, so the group was split into two teams. The weather was kind all morning and even provided us with a few glimpses of blue sky! However, after lunch the heavens opened and we had a good soaking for an hour.
Despite the inclement weather the volunteers of Bedfont Lakes Country Park demonstrated they are made of tough stuff and soldiered on without a winge or a moan. Credit must also be given to those that built the fire as it burned throughout the downpour! Also acting as a good source of drying off after the rain too!
All in all another fantastic day and a sterling effort by all those that attended. Many thanks from all the rangers at Bedfont Lakes for this greatly appreciated hard work and time invested.
The May volunteer day is scheduled for Saturday May 3rd, usual meeting time of 10am at the visitor centre off clockhouse lane. The day is planned to run until 3.30pm. If anyone requires more information please do not hesitate to contact me via the details at the foot of this page, and for those that wish to attend please drop me an email or call the visitor centre so I have a rough idea of numbers.
